Scotgrass 2010, to be held on Tuesday 11 May, at SAC Crichton Royal's Acrehead Farm, Dumfries, will see a wide range of products on show for the first time as manufacturers put new machinery in action at the first live demonstration of the year.

Future Investment

Mother and son, dairy farmers, Anne and John Kerr, from Woodhead Farm, Newmilns, have recently completed the construction of a multi-purpose building on their 300-acre dairy unit in the Irvine Valley, Ayrshire.

Contracting

Over fifty years ago, dairy farmer, Drew Watson of Byeloch Farm,Mouswald, Dumfriesshire set out contracting locally, with a Massey 35. He progressed to a 135 then 165.

New 7950i flagship model forager from JD

Taking its 50 Series foragers to the
next level of power, John Deere has unveiled its new top-of-the-range self-propelled forage harvester (SPFH), the 812hp 7950i, which replaces the 7850 model. This high-capacity machine for contractors is capable of harvesting up to 300 tonnes of maize per hour, filling a 40 cubic metre trailer in less than two and a half minutes. Up to 26 such trailer loads of silage can therefore be delivered to the clamp for compaction within just one hour.

New John Deere utility tractors for 2010

John Deere's new 5M, 5G and 5E utility
tractors from 55 to 100hp are aimed at livestock and mixed farms, small arable farms, speciality and part-time farmers, and commercial equipment fleet owners.

Complementing the top of the range 5R tractors introduced

last year, these 16 new tractor models offer customers the same traditional high levels of quality, specification

and value.

farmer, and is always looking for innovative solutions to farming problems. He’s known for his award-winning

design, the Scotpen mobile sheep pen. Recognising the need for good advice and quality equipment in his area, he

carefully selected French manufacturer Rabaud and became their local agent.

Fencing Guru

Jock Bryce is a classic entrepreneur. He began his business by identifying a gap in the market that wasn’t being satisfied by existing technology, then set out to meet that demand, with nothing to his name and a family to support. His boundless energy, constant attention to detail and
understanding of his customers are no doubt the foundations of his success. His wife Jennifer, who has always
helped him in the business is also due a lot of credit in this area.

Tillage 2009

Spylaw farm, Kelso, is sometimes called the best arable farm in Scotland and so it was a very suitable location for this year’s Tillage event, where all the latest cultivating and seeding machinery was put through its paces.
Some 70 tractors complete with ploughs, and various combinations of rollers, tines, presses and discs were seen working on 20 demonstration plots by the 1,500 or so visitors.

New Holland's latest and most advanced evolution of the award-winning
T7000 series will make its first national public appearance at the Grassland UK event at the Bath and West
Showground on May 7th. The T7000 Auto Command, which is based on the '2008 Tractor of the Year' T7000 range, will be demonstrating the new technology that gives it even greater fuel economy, productivity, class-leading
power to weight ratios, ease of use and comfort.
